Read somewhere that Coke is signing with Wendy's as its official soft drink
supplier. What if all the recycling organizations in the Country (NRC/SRO)
wrote an e-mail to Dave at Wendy's protesting that Coke broke its promise?

Subject: pill vial reuse and recycling

Greetings Fellow GreenYessers,

I am hoping someone has information on pill bottle recycling or reuse. Are
there pilot programs out there? Does anyone have experience with recycling
the resin types? Has anyone formally gotten around the FDA restrictions
against reuse?

Thanks in advance for any responses. I am gathering the information as part
of a packaging reduction project sponsored by the King County Solid Waste
Division in Seattle, WA.

Cheers,

Stitzhal

David,

We provide recycing services to a customer, a medical facility. Among
other materials, we collect pill dispensing containers, white HDPE
bottles with a PVC backed paper label. However, they want us to destroy,
not recycle the bottles. They want to be certain that any residue or
left-over medicine discarded in the containers is not consumed. I have
researched the recyclability of the containers--labels make the HDPE
difficult to recycle.

That is my experience.
